Making the Best of a Rainy 4th!

Our 4th of July was a wet one. It's quite the bummer when it rains so much on a holiday that is supposed to be filled with sunshine, water, pretty views, and cooking on the grill! We probably would have ended up at the beach had there not been practically a flood happening down there. Originally, we had plans to cook ribs, but we decided we would just forgo those plans until Friday. The kids were stir crazy as soon as they woke up!! So, we knew we had to get out of the house. :)
We went to Red Mountain Park for the first time. It was nice, but a better name would be Red Mountain Trails. I thought there would be a little more "park" feel to it, but it was basically some trails through the woods. Great for mountain bikers or hikers though! The trails were clean and pretty.
Dylan wore cowboy boots and, bless his heart, they started wearing a blister on his feet, so Chris had to carry him all the way back to the car. I was trying to push Kinley in her stroller through some thick rocks and she was just a bouncing. If anyone saw us they probably laughed! I don't care though, at least we try for adventure. It's always hit or miss.
Dylan still wanted to go to a park so we went somewhere a little more urban. We hit up a nature area/trail at Ross Bridge.
Check out this cute wooden play train! I instantly thought how cute it would be for a little boy's photo shoot.

And more pretty photo backdrops....this is when I kick myself for never bringing my real camera.
Dylan asked to pick me a flower for my birthday (which is Saturday). He is such a sweet boy sometimes.
We had lunch at Legacy BBQ. It was our first time trying it. We won't be going back.
Food was pretty good, but everything else was horrible. I haven't been to a restaurant where that many employees have no idea what's going on in a long time. The southerner in me says they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. ;)

We ended up shopping the rest of the afternoon at Patton Creek and the Galleria. It's what I do. I can't help it. :)
Take a look at how brown Kinley's bow is in this pic. She threw it in the mud on one of the trails! HaHa! I tried to Oxi clean it when we got home, but it's a goner.
I really wanted this stroller, but Chris said we didn't need it.
Later that night, Chris made my favorite cheesecake for my birthday and our other halves came over and we shot a few fireworks and lit some sparklers for the kids to see.
So, that was it...I think we made a pretty good time out of such a gloomy day!

Our day was also gloomy here in N. AL. But we tried to make the best of it.
