We (or I) wanted to take a fall trip somewhere we've never been. I've always wanted to go to Savannah, but because of the long drive never made a point to go. Usually, I like to fly anywhere over a 4-5 hour drive. To Hilton Head from our house it's 7.5 hours. Chris is not about to take Kinley on a plane since she is in her diva stage right now. (girl mama's do not tell me this is not a stage! haha) So I figured if I ever wanted to visit anytime soon, we would have to make the trek by car. {cue the horror music}
You know what though?? It was actually not that bad! The kids were pretty much rockstars on the drive. They did so good. We had plenty of movies, snacks & the iPad to pass the time.
I took this picture with panorama on my phone and it distorted Kinley's face. I laugh every time I see it.
We stopped at Mellow Mushroom for lunch on the way.
Dylan wanted his picture made by the giant sunflowers out front.
We stayed at the Westin in Hilton Head. I highly recommend this place,
it's uh-mazing!! Service was great. The valets, room service, and all the employees we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful. Most importantly, this place is gorgeous!
It's right on the beach and has several pools, including an outdoor heated pool.
I'm a Gulf of Mexico girl through and through, but this piece of Atlantic ocean was quite serene and very pretty. It still didn't have those sugar white sand beaches though ;)
You can take dogs on the beach there and also bike on the beach. We saw tons of both.
I felt like I was on a tropical island when I was in and around the pool areas.
So many plush chairs, seating areas, fire pits, a pond with huge koi fish, etc.
Hilton Head is a very pretty place, but nothing looks "normal". It's very obvious they have some special building codes and everything looks the same. That's all great and well until you need to find something and then it's very confusing. Everything sits a bit off the road with rows of trees in between, so it's almost as though things are hidden. That was really the only thing we weren't crazy about. The places we eat were good...Charbar: delicious burgers, Giuseppi's Pizza: Parmesan Dippers that were heavenly, Carolina Cafe: Shrimp and Grits, yum!!
We had to find an "Adventure Island" for Dylan. It's what he calls all putt putt/arcade type places. Ironically, this one was called Adventure Cove.
Hilton Head Island was a very pretty place, with plenty of shopping and beautiful things to see. I can't see myself going back next month or anything (ha!), but I can definitely see us going back in the future at some point.
A mere 45 mins. away from HH is a lovely place called Savannah. As I've said before Savannah was on my bucket list of places to visit and it didn't disappoint. We made a day trip out of it, although I really want to go back for a longer stay soon. I want to do the fun ghost tours and tour the historical homes. Some of the houses made me want to just pack my stuff up and move in. We found Forsyth Park first and then worked our way out from there.
A nice older man offered to take our family pic and Chris was like "no thank you" and I was all "uh, are you crazy, yes!" haha
This girl....oh me, oh my! Attitude for days!! ;)
This was one of my favorite houses.
So, we had to eat at the Lady and Sons. I think it's a requirement for first timers. It was delicious.
This was a plate from the buffet. It was on point southern cooking!!
We took a horse and carriage ride around the city too! Chris sprung for the private carriage and I'm glad he did because miss priss had one final burst of attitude before she finally passed out. I would have been mortified had others been with us! haha
Our tour guide was so proud that she got Kinley to sleep. (we had some trouble getting her to sleep and take naps on this trip.)
The carriage ride was one of my favorites. It was that special. The horse was named June and nothing spooked her. She would even let you pet her face. I pretty much loved her.
I LOVED Savannah and if you like history like me, go visit, it's sooo interesting.
Our whole trip was so fun and I'm so proud that we all did so well on the drive. Can't wait to go back and visit!
